Men’s Basketball: LSU transfer Daryl Edwards reportedly considering UTEP
The UTEP men’s basketball team could be getting a key addition soon.
The key word there is “could.”
According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports and Sports Illustrated, LSU graduate transfer Daryl Edwards is considering both UTEP and Fresno State as potential transfer destinations.
The 6’3″ guard spent the last two seasons with LSU, playing in 32 games two seasons ago but just nine this past season after undergoing foot surgery in the middle of the year. He averaged 6.8 points per game in about 22 minutes a night for the Tigers in the 2017-18 season.
Edwards reportedly visited both UTEP and Fresno State recently and is eligible to play immediately wherever he signs.
The former LSU Tiger also played two years of junior college basketball in Florida before his time in Baton Rouge.
One downside for the Miners in the battle with Fresno State for Edwards is the fact he is a native of Fresno.
However, UTEP head coach Rodney Terry did spend seven seasons coaching Fresno State and likely developed a connection with Edwards in his time there.
So, this could ultimately come down to Edwards choosing between his home town and a coach he knows well.
Edwards actually first committed to Nevada after declaring his decision to transfer from LSU about two months ago.
However, Nevada’s head coach, Eric Musselman, left the program to take the head coaching job at Arkansas, and Edwards was released from his commitment.
