El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019 unveiled

Eight new members of the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame were selected Monday night and will be enshrined in a ceremony on May 8 at the EPCC Administrative Services building off Viscount.

Those eight were chosen from different sports and different fields, and they represent some of the best coaches, players, officials, and broadcasters our city has to offer.

They will be enshrined alongside the likes of Don Haskins, Nate “Tiny” Archibald, Lee Trevino, Nolan Richardson, and many more legends.

A total of 19 hopefuls found their names on the 2019 ballot, but only the following eight can now say they are hall of famers.

Holly Cohen Mata – Franklin and UTEP soccer standout

Jennifer Delgadillo – Irvin High and UTEP star golfer

Jorge Munoz – Golden Gloves national champion amateur boxer

Quincy Dow Farley – Longtime El Paso High swimming coach

Gary Pippen – Recently retired Eastwood basketball coach

Duke Keith of KLAQ Radio – Longtime play-by-play broadcaster

Bill Scott – Big 12 and Mountain West football official

Eugene “Dez” Desboine – Longtime coach at the all-black Douglass School.
