Honor flight veterans return home
After spending several days in our nation’s capital, several veterans from El Paso and Las Cruces recevied a hero’s welcome at the El Paso International Airport after taking part in this year’s honor flight.
The veterans returned home today and were welcomed by dozens of people including family and friends.
Many people went up to the veterans and thanked them for their service.
ABC-7 has been reporting since Wednesday on the veteran’s trip to Washington D.C.
The group visited several monuments and war memorials.
There were 30 veterans who participated.
Some who served in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War.
Many of them visiting the nation’s captial for the first them.
One man who served in Vietnam told ABC-7.
“I mean I couldn’t believe where I was. I had to pinch myself,” said Vietnam War veteran Manuel Castillo.
Castillo said today’s reception at the airport was a far cry from his return from Vietnam.
“We got saluted and its fun to get to see that and I love that. I will never forget it,” Castillo said.
ABC-7 was the only local news station who went along with the veterans during the honor flight.
