Scholarship celebrates legacy of El Paso nurse who died in crash

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso is celebrating National Nurses Week by remembering the life of El Paso mother and nurse Kharisma James.

James was a graduate of the Hunt School of Nursing and an operating room/surgery nurse at The Hospitals of Providence. James died in August, 2018 after she was hit and killed by a car in the Tippin Elemenary School parking lot.

TTUHSC created the Kharisma James Legacy Scholarship Award and is inviting El Pasoans to donate during National Nurses week, which runs from May 6 through May 12. Donate here.

In addition to the scholarship fund, TTUHSC is remembering the community to thank a nurse if they see one this week.

A group of kids visited TTUHSC nurses last week to give them hugs and treats and to learn about their every day duties.
