Food supply to feed migrants in Las Cruces is running low

The City of Las Cruces announced on Sunday that the food supply to feed migrants who are dropped off in the city is running low.

“Today (Sunday), we had approximately 400 asylum seekers in Las Cruces, the highest daily number since this situation began on April 12. In total, nearly 4,500 have so far been brought to Las Cruces,” said Las Cruces Battalion Chief Michael Daniels in a news release.

Daniels said The Salvation Army is providing migrants three meals a day, but the resources needed to sustain that service are strained.

A GoFundMe account has been made by the Las Cruces Professional Firefighters Local 2362 to help purchase meals.

Those wanting to donate food can contact the Salvation Army at 220 E. Idaho Ave. Their phone number is (575) 524-4713.

Daniels also said there is an urgent need for fresh volunteers to relieve those experiencing exhaustion.
