TxDOT’s top engineer in El Paso abruptly resigns

Bob Bielek, the district engineer for the El Paso sector of the Texas Department of Transportation, submitted his resignation last week.

In a statement emailed to ABC-7, a TxDOT spokeswoman said, “On behalf of TxDOT leadership, we appreciate Bob’s service to the Department and the El Paso District and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

ABC-7 has learned Steve Warren, the TxDOT Lubbock district engineer, will serve as interim district engineer in El Paso.

In a statement sent to ABC-7, Warren said, “TxDOT-El Paso employees will continue their important work of designing and building projects in the District, maintaining roadways for the safety of the traveling public, and working with law enforcement agencies during incidents for the safety of all involved, and I am proud to be a part of it while the search for a new District Engineer commences.”

The El Paso Inc. first reported the news. According to the El Paso Inc., Bielek became El Paso’s top transportation engineer in March 2012, arriving from Houston.
