6th confirmed measles case as El Paso outbreak grows

A sixth case of the measles was confirmed Wednesday in a growing outbreak that El Paso public health officials warned could produce more incidents of the highly contagious respiratory disease.

The latest victim was a man in his mid-20’s who officials believe may have exposed other people at a veterans clinic and two local drug stores. He joins three toddlers and two women who have also been diagnosed with the measles.

“We can’t stress enough the importance of being vaccinated against measles. It is our best defense and very well proven for over 50 years now all across the world”, said El Paso’s city health director Robert Resendes.

He urged anyone who visited the below listed places on the dates and times noted to make sure they are properly immunized against the measles, and to immediately seek medical care if they develop a rash and fever.

Sunday, 7/21/19 Walmart at Cielo Vista (7101 Gateway Blvd W) 11 p.m. – 2 a.m.

Tuesday, 7/23/19 Veteran Affairs Main Clinic (5001 N. Piedras) 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Tuesday, 7/23/19 Walmart at Cielo Vista (7101 Gateway Blvd W) 3:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.
