‘There are no kidnappings or serial killings’: El Paso police debunk ‘absurd’ social media fears

El Paso police took to twitter on Wednesday afternoon to debunk fraudulent rumors circulating on social media of a serial killer kidnapping women around the area. Those rumors come in the wake of a couple of missing woman cases recently.

In the tweet, police said “there is absolutely no truth to the spreading social media comments of a serial killer on the loose. There are no kidnappings or serial killings occurring.”

EPPD called the social media rumors, which have sparked fear among some local women, as “absurd.”

The internet rumors coincided with the disappearance of 29-year old Erika Andrea Gaytan, a mother of a 7-year-old boy, who vanished after going on a date to a concert earlier this month at the El Paso County Coliseum. Police said they are currently following multiple leads in that case..

Then on Monday, a woman’s body was found in a desert area in far east El Paso. But that woman turned out to be 48-year-old Angelica Vega, who police said had serious medical issues and was not the victim of any foul play.

There is absolutely no truth to the spreading social media comments of a serial killer on the loose. There are no kidnappings or serial killings occurring. These reports/comments/post are absurd. Consider the source and credibility or lack thereof.
