Las Cruces man walking across I-10 near Mesquite struck by 4 cars, killed
New Mexico State Police said a pedestrian was struck by four cars and killed along Interstate 10 east near Mesquite on Tuesday morning, prompting a freeway closure for several hours.
The 40-year-old Las Cruces man who died walking across the freeway at mile post 155 around 5:45 a.m. was identified as David Holguin.
The drivers of the four vehicles — a Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai and Chrysler — will not face any charges, according to police, who also said their identities would not be released.
It was unclear why Holguin was crossing the interstate. State police said the death remained under investigation, but it had been determined that Holguin was not under the influence of alcohol nor were any of the drivers.
The deadly accident blocked the eastbound lanes of traffic for more than three hours. The New Mexico Dept. of Transportation said I-10 reopened at 9:37 a.m.
