New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham plans to introduce an extreme risk protection bill, also known a red flag protocols.
Meanwhile in Texas, the state House Select Committee on Mass Violence Prevention and Community Safety, recently held a public hearing to try to find ways to detect and stop mass shootings.
Committee members heard from victims of the August 3rd El Paso mass shooting, mental health experts, law enforcement and other experts.
State Rep. and Speaker Pro-temp Joe Moody introduced House Bill 3191, which if passed, would force a person who is the subject of a family violence protective order or arrested for or charged with an offense involving family violence to surrender firearms owned by the person.
Committee member, Rep. cesar blanco tells ABC-7 Xtra that Moody's bill is a good start but more needs be done to prevent mass shootings.
