FABENS, Texas -- The Fabens Independent School District is extending its break for students like other districts in El Paso County are doing.

The reason for the expanded break is the fear of the coronavirus after El Paso reported its first and second confirmed cases.

"The El Paso Department of Public Health has recommended all school districts to close schools until April 6, 2020. Fabens Independent School District will follow this recommendation. Students should remain at home and return to school on Monday, April 6," the district said in a statement Sunday.

Fabens ISD said it will provide breakfast and lunch to students for the weeks of March 23-27 and March 30- April 3. It said meals can be picked up at the Fabens High School cafeteria from 7:30 – 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
