FDA temporarily lifts ban on Juul products after an appeals court blocked the ban
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Food and Drug Administration has temporarily lifted the ban on selling and distributing Juul products they issued last month after an appeals court blocked the ban.
The FDA initially cited a lack of evidence demonstrating the overall safety of products by the e-cigarette company as reasoning for the ban.
The administration's decision to temporarily lift the ban was a separate action from the appeals court's decision to block it. The FDA said this decision was made as "There are scientific issues unique to the Juul application that warrant additional review.”
The FDA will announce a final decision at a later time.
In 2020, the FDA asked e-cigarette companies to apply to keep their products on the market. Juul denied the request.
Juul products can remain on the market while a federal court reviews the case.
