Migrant mom and toddler hit in a Juarez avenue; child dies

JUAREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) -- A three-year-old child dies after he and his mom were hit by a car in Juarez.

It happened Wednesday night as they were trying to cross "Boulevard Juan Pablo II," or as many Borderland residents know it, "Cuatro Siglos."

This avenue is the one right next to the Rio Grande, it is one of the high-speed avenues in Juarez, parallel to the Cesar E. Chavez Border Highway in El Paso.

The accident happened near gate 36 of the Border Wall, where thousands of migrants tried to cross to the U.S. last Wednesday.

ABC-7 spoke with Juarez Transit Police which said they had had an increase in accidents in these past three months but could not provide us with any data.
