El Pasoans gearing up for May 6 vote on climate charter

MGN

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) - In the coming weeks, El Pasoans will be asked to decide on a citizen-led petition initiative to add a climate policy to the city charter.

The Climate Policy would establish an energy goal requiring that El Paso use energy generated by renewable sources, with a goal of 80% by 2030, and 100% by 2045.

Proponents say it's a move toward a cleaner way of living, where citizens have control over what's in our water, our food, and the type of jobs we have.

But those opposed to proposition K, including many in the business community, say it will destroy the local economy.

ABC-7 will be dedicating a few stories to this topic, in an attempt to simplify what's in the proposition, and help clear up any misinformation for voters as they prepare to vote on this important issue.
