Juarez bridge reconstruction nears halfway point; summer completion expected

JUAREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) -- The 'Carlos Villarreal' bridge in Juarez that connects directly with the Bridge of the Americas has been under construction for nearly three months.

The construction work has affected borderland residents from both sides of the border that cross daily.

Thursday morning, Juarez Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar gave a tour to local media to show the advances in the project.

According to the Juarez Director of Public Works, Daniel González, the project is currently in 35-40 percent of progress. The city aims to have it done by this summer when most motorists use this port of entry.

The Bridge of the Americas is one of the few free-toll bridges on the El Paso-Juarez border.

Last Easter Sunday was hard to access the Chamizal Park in Juarez for local residents due to the work in the area, according to the Juarez Mayor.
