Governor Greg Abbott Announces ‘Texas Tactical Border Force’
AUSTIN, Texas (KVIA) -- Texas Gov. Greg Abbott addressed the ongoing migrant crisis Monday morning.
Abbott spoke about border security ahead of the expiration of Title 42, a COVID-era migration policy.
The governor held a press conference at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to “provide an update on Texas’ unprecedented efforts to respond to President Joe Biden’s ongoing border crisis,” a press release from his office stated.
Abbott said the Biden administration estimates around 13,000 people will come across the border illegally on a daily basis once Title 42 expires.
He announced Texas will deploy up to 10,000 National Guard members and 1,200 Texas Department of Public Safety troopers. He says the state is creating the “Texas Tactical Border Force,” which will consist of specially trained National Guard members deployed to “hot spots” to intercept, repel, and turn back migrants who try to enter the U.S. illegally.
Abbott adds, the elite National Guard team will be deployed with the equipment and tools that will be needed for them to be effective. It includes aircraft and boats on the water nigh vision as well as riot gear to prepare for anything they may encounter, as they are protecting and securing our border.
The Texas Tactical Border Force bolsters Operation Lonestar to secure the Texas border amidst the lifting of Title 42. Abbott said this force will be deployed starting Monday.
