Las Cruces non-profit taking in hundreds of migrants a day

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- The non-profit Border Servant Corps in Las Cruces has been receiving migrants from the El Paso area for months, as the migrant crisis along the borderland continues to unfold.

The organization told ABC-7 it typically gets about 250 migrants a day, and are expecting more as Title 42 is set to be lifted May 11.

The CDC put the rule in place at the start of the pandemic to stop the spread of COVID-19 into the country. Now, as the nationwide pandemic declaration expires, Title 42 will also go out of effect.

Border Servant Corps said migrants typically stay with at its shelter for about 24 hours before heading to their sponsors or other cities.

So far the shelter says it has helped over 50,000 migrants.
