Be Mindful: Students bike to school for better physical and mental health

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Walking and biking to school is a great way for kids to get the physical activity needed for healthy minds. Students from Dr. Tinajero School and their families start their bike ride at 7 am, Wednesday at Peter Piper Pizza on Paisano Drive and make their way to school.

Bike to School Day is celebrated every Wednesday of each May. Studies show that students who are physically active on a regular basis have better attendance, and have higher test scores in school. Biking helps children reach the recommended goal of 60 minutes of physical activity to help maintain a healthy weight.

Studies also have shown that when kids have safe routes and are able to walk or bike to school, they gain more independence and confidence and arrive at school eager and ready to learn.
