El Paso native Kayla Thorton becomes WNBA Finals Champion

BROOKLYN, New York (KVIA) — El Paso native and former Miner, Kayla Thorton and the New York Liberty become WNBA Champions after beating the Minnesota Lynx 67-62 in game five of the WNBA Finals.

Thorton played a total of 21 minutes contributing 2 rebounds and 2 points. Jonquel Jones led the Liberty with a team high 17 points, 1 assist and 6 rebounds to earn the 2024 WNBA Finals MVP.

Last season New York lost in the finals against the Las Vegas Aces in four games however, this year
the Liberty make franchise history as they were the only team in the league who had not yet claimed a WNBA title.
