Blinken will announce aid for Sudan and talks about AI risks at UN Security Council

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected to announce about $230 million in new assistance for conflict-torn Sudan during his likely final trip to the United Nations while in office. That’s according to U.S. officials who said $200 million would be for humanitarian aid and $30 million to help Sudan with a transition back to democratic governance. Blinken is capping his engagements with the U.N. after a tumultuous four years that saw war return to Europe and multiple crises in the Middle East. He’s chairing two meetings of the U.N.’s most powerful body on Thursday focused on artificial intelligence and Sudan.
