County officials at standstill for March 2026 Primary

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)-- The first key deadline for the March 2026 primary is September 9th, but without knowing where the boundaries will be drawn, election officials can't make final decisions.
"We're just waiting for again direction from the state when those maps if and when those maps are finally drawn," says Lisa Wise the El Paso County Elections Administrator.
Redistricting impacts polling locations, how many election workers are needed, and which area a candidate is representing, Wise told ABC-7. If the battle of the redistricting continues Wise said the election could get delayed.
"Let's say the maps are passed in a special session that's in October, the the legislation will also have a deadline to have them done by if the election were to be pushed back to May, which has been done before, basically all the deadlines are two months out, two months later than they would," said Wise.
Democratic lawmakers continue to protest Republicans' proposed congressional map by remaining out of the state.
Today, the Texas House failed to meet quorum, the House needs 100 members to establish a quorum there were 95 members present. Democratic State Rep. Claudia Ordaz has said that she hasn't been present due to a "personal health matter."
The Texas state House will reconvene on Monday to attempt to establish quorum again, Speaker Dustin Burrows said.
