El Paso man arrested for alleged rape on New Mexico State University campus
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- An El Paso man was arrested Friday on charges stemming from a rape last month on the campus of New Mexico State University.
Christian Estrada, 24, was booked into the Dona Ana County jail on two counts of criminal sexual penetration, one felony count of attempted kidnapping and one misdemeanor charge of battery. Jail records late Friday showed he was being held without bond.
NMSU police said the rape occurred on Oct. 28 when a female student was sexually assaulted in her on-campus apartment.
Authorities indicated Estrada, who is not an NMSU student, knew the victim and was immediately banned from the campus after the rape allegation was reported to police.
