$2,000 reward offered to identify shooter who gunned down Las Cruces businessman along street

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- A $2,000 reward was offered Monday as police sought leads in the weekend death of a Las Cruces businessman who was gunned down at a city intersection.

Officers found 79-year-old Oscar Amezquita about 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Amador Avenue and Esperanza Street after people reported hearing gunshots fired in the area.

Amezquita, a long-time resident of the community and owner of the Landis Boot and Shoe Service on Lohman Avenue, suffered at least one bullet wound and died shortly after officers found him.

Investigators asked that anyone who could help identify the shooter in this homicide to contact Las Cruces police at (575) 526-0795. Police said tips could also be provided anonymously by calling Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or through the Crime Stoppers app, “P3 TIPS.”
