El Paso, Texas – A Horizon City man is now being sought for manslaughter in the shooting death of an infant that investigators initially has described as an accident.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday it was seeking 31-year-old Jesse David Gonzalez and had a warrant for his arrest.

Deputies said the manslaughter charge stemmed from a June 18 shooting that resulted in the death of a young child. It happened in the 700 block of Ascension.

Initially, detectives had described the incident as a "probable accidental shooting" given the circumstances, which they did not elaborate on at the time.

The wounded infant, who deputies had said was hospitalized after shooting, later died from those injuries.

Authorities on Wednesday didn't offer any details behind the reason for the charges, nor did they indicate whether they had changed their view of the baby's shooting death as accidental.
