Police say drug deal gone bad led to Lower Valley man’s shooting
UPDATE, Aug. 2: Detectives on Monday said a drug deal gone bad resulted in the weekend shooting of a man at an apartment complex in El Paso's Lower Valley.
"The victim, 20–year-old Marcos Ruben Rojas was shot during a drug transaction," police wrote in an incident report released Monday.
Authorities told ABC-7 that Rojas got into an argument with another 20-year-old man, who pulled out a gun and shot him in the parking lot of the Michele Apartments at 8507 Alameda Avenue on Sunday afternoon.
Rojas remained hospitalized on Monday, but police indicated he was now expected to survive; the shooter fled the scene and had yet to be arrested.
ORIGINAL REPORT, Aug. 1: EL PASO, Texas -- A man was seriously wounded Sunday afternoon in a shooting in El Paso's Lower Valley.
The gunfire occurred around 12:30 p.m. at the Michele Apartments in the 8500 block of Alameda Avenue.
Authorities at the scene said two men in their 20s were apparently involved in an argument that escalated, with one of them pulling out a gun and shooting the other.
The shooter fled the scene and has yet to be arrested, officers indicated, while the victim was taken to an area hospital with what they described as life-threatening injuries.
