Police identify man who died in officer-involved shooting

Update (June 2, 2025): El Paso Police just identified the man who died as Salvador Valdiviezo, 35.

Police officials say that Valdiviezo started firing toward officers shortly after they arrived at the house on Passo Via Street.

"Both officers returned fire and Valdiviezo was struck several times, he was transported to the hospital and succumbed to his injuries," officials explain. "One officer received a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital for treatment and is in stable condition."

The El Paso Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Unit and the Texas Rangers investigators are now looking into the shooting.


Update: El Paso Police confirm an officer fired at a man who shot at them. One officer is at UMC in stable condition after being shot by a man. The officers were responding to a family violence call in the 6400 block of Passo Via St. in the Upper Valley. Police say that's when the officers returned fire, hitting the man who later died.

The Texas Rangers are at the scene investigating, which is the normal protocol when an officer is involved in a shooting. The Crimes Against Person detectives as well as the department's internal affairs unit are also investigating the shooting.

No arrests has been made. The street has been closed due to the investigation which is expected to last until tomorrow morning. The El Paso Police Department will meet with residents in the area to give them access to their homes.


EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) - The El Paso Police Department's Crimes Against Persons detectives are investigating a shooting that involved an officer.

The officer received injuries that required immediate transport to UMC.

The call went out at 3:17 p.m. at the 6400 block of Passo Via St.
