ABC-7 Listens: El Paso breast cancer survivor, advocate honored nationally
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and there is one exceptional El Pasoan advocating for those in the fight. Eugenia "Gina" Posada is herself a breast cancer survivor who is making an wide-scale effort to help other cancer patients and survivors.
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) awarded Posada awarded the "Act! Lead of the Year" for her commitment to advocacy. Posada received her award on Sept. 17 in Washington, D.C.
The Lead of the Year designation is awarded to those who demonstrate leadership in advocating for cancer-related public policy. Posada is an 11-year survivor of breast cancer. According to ACS CAN, Posada's own personal journey is what prompted her to become a volunteer with ACS.
The president of ACS Cancer Action Network said in the news release that Posada, "is a tireless advocate who speaks out on behalf of all those fighting cancer, both in English and in Spanish in her El Paso community in Texas and across the country. Her outstanding efforts are reflected in her ability to swiftly organize and mobilize a robust team of local volunteers to champion strong and effective public policy to help end cancer as we know it for everyone.”
