Man arrested for allegedly tossing out box of puppies at garbage dumpster in Socorro

A 54-year-old man was arrested late Friday on animal cruelty charges for allegedly disposing of a box of puppies at a trash dumpster in Socorro.

Alejandro Hernandez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a bond totaling $1,500, according to El Paso County Sheriff’s Office detectives.

His arrest comes after deputies made a public plea for help earlier this week in identifying the man who dumped the half-dozen puppies and released surveillance video that showed the individual in action.

In the video, you can see a man removing a box containing six puppies from a dark-colored Hyundai on Sept. 2 and putting it next to the dumpster in the 690 block of Horizon Blvd.

Authorities said the puppies were later discovered and taken to El Paso Animal Services for care.
