EL PASO, Texas -- Police put out a public call for help Friday to find who's responsible for tossing a badly injured kitten into the garbage dumpster of a local yogurt shop earlier in the month.

The badly injured black kitten was found tied up in a trash bag in the garbage dumpster near Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt located at 1355 George Dieter.

A police spokesperson said a Menchie’s employee "heard the sound of a kitten meowing in the dumpster while throwing out the trash" on the morning of Jan. 5.

While the kitten was taken to the city's Animal Services Center for medical treatment, it died a short time later from its injuries.

Police asked anyone with information about the kitten to call the department's animal cruelty investigations hotline at 915-212-0800.
