Wanted felon arrested at Las Cruces motel after SWAT standoff

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- A standoff at a Las Cruces motel Thursday afternoon ended in the capture of a wanted fugitive.

A police SWAT team surrounded the Kilby Motel in the 1000 block of South Main Street as officers sought to serve a warrant.

People in area were either evacuated or advised to shelter-in-place - and there were some nearby street closures with traffic diverted as the situation unfolded.

About an hour after the standoff ensued, authorities said the man surrendered to police without incident.

The suspect, whose name wasn't released, was wanted on a felony charge - although police didn't elaborate.
