ALAMOGORDO, New Mexico -- Police seized guns and knives from two 13-year-old students at an Alamogordo school on Wednesday and arrested them on felony weapons charges.
Authorities said the pair were reportedly overheard talking about possessing weapons at Chaparral Middle School around 11:20 a.m.; a school resource officer then searched their backpacks and discovered two pistols -- a .45 caliber and a .40 caliber, along with two knives.
The teens were being held in an Otero County juvenile detention facility following their arrests at school, police said. The pair faced charges that included felony possession of a deadly weapon on school premises, unlawful possession of a firearm and larceny.
The names of the students were not released by authorities due to their ages.
