Las Cruces considers adding 25 more days to school year for students
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- Las Cruces Public School students may be getting a change to their schedule.
LCPS officials have proposed a calendar with an extra 25 days added to it.
This way, officials say students from elementary to high school will receive more hours of instruction and educators will have more opportunities to teach in a dynamic way.
But not everyone agrees with the proposal.
“The kids already go to school enough,” said Eddie Tellez, a grandfather of a Las Cruces student.
There is still time for parents of children in the district to make their opinions heard, as the change must still be approved by the school board before the calendar can be adjusted.
If a change is approved, it will come from four proposed schedules that are being considered. Of those four, officials would seek to implement the one deemed the best.
