EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)-- The Ysleta Independent School District is considering taking out a 25 million dollar loan to cover payroll in August.

ABC-7 spoke to Superintendent Dr. Xavier De La Torre who says this has nothing to do with declining enrollment. He says the district budgets for that every year.

"We project how many students we believe we will lose, and then we use positive attrition, retirements, resignations, employees relocating, and we eliminate those positions, to generate the savings that we need to maintain a solvent, financial picture in the district," said De La Torre.

He says in the months of April and August the district doesn't get state revenue. De La Torre says payroll is covered for April. Then in May, June, and July the state will give the district it's monthly allotment. Come August if the state adopts a budget by June 30th and there's new money going to the school district De La Torre says there will be no need for this bridge loan.

"Let's not start with, you know, the best case scenario, let's start with the worst case scenario and then celebrate, when it doesn't happen," said De La Torre.
