EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Announced in a Tuesday board meeting, Canutillo ISD is reducing its nearly $6 million budget deficit by cutting workforce positions.

The district says it plans to lower the deficit from $5.8 million to $2.3 million by restructuring programs such as career and technical education, central office departments and library services.

11 programs were considered for cuts and restructuring across the district.

This includes library programs, elementary music, nursing and health services.

The district decided to preserve programs such as counseling and Montessori, alongside Deanna Davenport Elementary and Pre-K.

Canutillo ISD says it has already made significant cuts, including more than $3 million in operational costs and central office reductions.
