The El Paso Fire Department is hosting a ceremony today to honor the victims of the September 11 attacks. They will also recognize the sacrifices of the first responders who rushed in to save lives.

It’s happening at 9 a.m. at Fire Station 18 at 7901 San Jose Road. El Paso Fire Chief Mario D’Agostino, Police Chief Greg Allen, Sheriff Richard Wiles and other city officials will present a wreath at the 9/11 memorial.

“It’s really to commemorate the actions of those public safety personnel, who risked their lives,” El Paso Fire Department Deputy Chief Jorge Rodriguez said. “That verse of ‘we will never forget,’ it’s very American and it’s become part of our history. It’s one that’s honored every year.”

Rodriguez said first responders feel a willingness to serve communities in need, and they find the confidence to take risks doing so by falling back on their training.
