District 6 El Paso City Council runoff election taking place Saturday; voter turnout low
EL PASO, Texas -- Election Day is Saturday for voters in El Paso’s District 6, where a runoff election for a city council representative is taking place.
The two candidates who are facing off in hopes of filling the seat are Claudia Lizzette Rodriquez and Debbie Torres. Neither got a majority of votes in the special election held on Dec. 14, which triggered the runoff.
The winner will replace Claudia Ordaz Perez, who resigned to run for a state house seat.
In early voting, only 1.7% of eligible voters had cast a ballot. As of Friday, the number of total votes cast in the race was just over 800.
