Mayor Margo’s dinner out didn’t violate his own city order, but it did ignore top doctor’s advice
EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso Mayor Dee Margo has responded to a photograph being circulated on social media. (See it at the bottom of this article.)
It shows him and his wife sitting at a table with another couple at an outdoor restaurant.
Some have criticized the mayor for ignoring the city's own advice on not gathering with people other than those from your own household.
He offered an explanation to ABC-7.
"With our order, no more than six at one table. Mandate is no more than six and the clarification is while Dr. (Hector) Ocaranza would prefer it be with no one other than your family, it's not precluded by the order that Judge (Ricardo) Samaniego and I have signed that follow the governor's directives," Margo indicated.
The mayor added that the couple he and his wife were dining with were their neighbors. And he said that he used a face mask when he entered and exited the restaurant, which is also required by the order.
