Local artists create ‘New Horizons’ mural for El Paso International Airport
EL PASO, Texas -- If you plan on heading out to the El Paso International Airport anytime soon, you’ll be greeted by a brand-new mural as soon as you drive in.
Not only does this mural showcase the colors of our culture, but it also showcases the future of our city.
The new mural, "New Horizons," is a part of the recently completed landscape and lighting project constructed by Jordan Foster Construction, an El Paso firm.
El Paso artists Jeremiah and Dave Navarro were selected after their participation in the well-known "El Paso Strong" mural on Cotton Street.
"In this climate that we find ourselves in, in this country right now, it was just an honor to paint something that can actually make people think about the future and where we're going and where we're headed," said Jeremiah Navarro.
Included in that project was the restoration of the wall and the removal of tile work that was beyond repair. The prominent wall, located east of the terminal building, is considered a great place to showcase Borderland talent because it is visible by everyone who drives to the airport's front entrance.
“We previously had an existing mural that just could not be repaired so we took that opportunity to provide the space for local artists to showcase their talents to visitors coming in and out of our airport. It's a great opportunity to highlight our culture and to highlight our art as a community,” said Sam Rodriguez, director of the El Paso International Airport.
