After two years the El Paso Rent help program is closed

EL PASO, Texas -- The EP Rent Help program closed for new applicants almost a month ago.

But the results of the two-year program are in. The EP Rent program started in April of 2020 just after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to help people make their rent payments and avoid evictions.

The EP Rent program was formed by the Paso Del Norte Community Foundation. In a partnership with the city and county, it was able to distribute 38 million dollars of federal assistance to tenants and landlords. That helped more than 82 hundred families.

Abc-7 received the details data of how that money was dolled out.

El Pasoans still in need of assistance are encouraged to call the 211 helpline or the County of El Paso’s General Assistance Department at (915) 546-8150 to learn more about other public funding available for residents.

Community members living within El Paso County but outside of city limits in need of rental or utility assistance can now apply for direct support through the local United Way’s El Paso United initiative. The number is (915) 400-7401.
