Homeless man found dead under Las Cruces underpass

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico - Las Cruces police have made a preliminary identification of the homeless man who was found dead in a concrete drainage canal along north Main Street.

The man is believed to be 58-years old and was known to be living in the drainage canal. Police have been in contact with his family but will not release his identity until it's confirmed through the medical investigator's office.

About 3 p.m. Sunday, police said they learned of a deceased man in the concrete drainage canal that runs underneath the 2100 block of north Main Street.

A police spokesman said there were no signs of foul play and nothing appeared to be suspicious about his death.

The drainage canal is often frequented by individuals who are homeless.
