New Mexico reports 11 new Doña Ana County virus cases, 1 more in Otero County detention facilities
SANTA FE, New Mexico — Health officials in New Mexico on Tuesday reported six more deaths and 106 new cases of the coronavirus statewide.
Figures released by state officials pushed the death toll to 276 with the total number of cases now at 6,192.
Health officials said 11 of those new cases occurred in Doña Ana County, which now has a total caseload of 319. There remained just two deaths in the county.
There were no new infections among residents in neighboring Otero County, but there was one new case involving an inmate at the Otero County Prison Facility.
Otero's case count among residents is just eight, but there are now 59 inmate cases at the prison and 43 involving migrants detained at the Otero County ICE Processing Center in Chaparral.
The bulk of the state's new infections and all of Tuesday's deaths were concentrated in the northwest corner of the state, in McKinley and San Juan counties, where the coronavirus has taken an outsized toll on the Navajo Nation.
