LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- Protesters seeking police reforms prompted the closure of some roadways in Las Cruces on Saturday.

As of 11:30 a.m., demonstrators blocked traffic on Lohman Avenue at Walnut Street.

The protest was expected to head east down Lohman to Telshor Boulevard, and authorities anticipated that intersection could be shut down too.

Authorities expressed concern because they indicated that Lohman and Telshor are primary routes to Memorial Medical Center and Mountainview Regional Medical Center.

While police were encouraging protesters to stay on sidewalks, they were also making plans to limit the flow of traffic in the area in the event that crowds block streets.
