New Mexico counties see loosened restrictions as Covid-19 trends improve; Doña Ana County remains in the Yellow

NEW MEXICO - The state's Department of Health provided a Covid-19 update Wednesday, pointing out the state no longer has any county in the 'Red' in its Covid-19 'Red to Green' map. Doña Ana County remained in the Yellow level. The county will stay in the Yellow for the next two weeks, until officials update the Covid-19 map once again.

As of Wednesday, 13 counties were in the Turquoise level and 10 are in the Green level. As counties see a decrease in the spread of Covid-19 and progress out of the Red, there are fewer restrictions on commercial and day-to-day activities. 10 counties remain in the Yellow level.

The state said it's giving an average of 13,718 vaccines a day. Even as the state vaccinates eligible populations, health officials still remind New Mexicans to get Covid-19 tests if they feel symptomatic, if they have traveled or if they spent time unmasked in company of others.

The state's county-by-county system uses the per-capita daily incidence of new COVID-19 cases and average COVID-19 test positivity rate to determine the level of public health risk and requirement for each county. A county that meets one criterion may operate at the Yellow Level; a county that meets both may operate at the Green Level. A county that has met both for two consecutive biweekly map updates may operate at the Turquoise Level.
