The El Caldito brings in homeless, less fortunate for Thanksgiving meal
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico- On a cold, rainy Thanksgiving day, The El Caldito Soup Kitchen opened its doors like it always does to the less fortunate.
Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and all the trimmings were given to anyone who was hungry.
The El Caldito Soup Kitchen President Gabe Anaya told ABC-7 that they only have four paid staff members and everyone else was a volunteer.
“Our volunteers are primarily retirees and they come from all over the country and they are willing to give back. So we are very fortunate to live in Las Cruces,” Anaya said.
The New Mexico State University men's basketball team was on hand to help pass out food and talk to those who came.
Shooting guard Teddy Allen was happy to give back to those who have been supportive of the team saying, “It’s Thanksgiving everyone deserves to be happy, so if we can help with that it’s great. To be able to give back like we would want for someone to do for us is good.”
