3 dead, 5 injured after shooting in Red River, New Mexico
EDITOR'S NOTE: The original story listed 3 dead and five injured. NMSP released an update shortly after its publishing, lowering the fatality count to 2, and raising the injured count to 6. However, NMSP has since released another update just after 1 a.m. Sunday morning, raising the fatality count back to 3. Updated story is as follows:
RED RIVER, New Mexico (KVIA) -- Three people are dead and five are injured after a shooting in Red River, New Mexico Saturday evening.
New Mexico State Police confirmed the number of victims early Sunday morning. They added that there was no current threat to the public.
The town's mayor, Linda Calhoun, told our news partners in Albuquerque, KOAT, that there are "suspects" in custody. She was not able to confirm how many suspects there are at the time she spoke to KOAT.
Calhoun said that the shooting was "biker gang related." However, police have not yet confirmed that at this time.
NMSP first tweeted about the shooting at 6:36 p.m., stating "NMSP is investigating a shooting in Red River."
Red River was in the midst of hosting the 41st annual Red River Motorcycle Rally. The town's website stated they are expecting 28,000 bikers from across the country.
The small ski resort town is located 433 miles north of El Paso, and is around a 3 hour drive from Albuquerque.
