Texas saw the largest population increase compared to any U.S. state in 2022
EL PASO, Texas -- Texas was the largest-growing state by population in the U.S. between July 2021 and December 2022, according to the yearly Census by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The state reached a total population of 30,029,572: a 470,708 increase since July 2021, meaning Texas surpassed the 30-million-population threshold last year.
Texas is second in U.S. state populations only to California, which has a population of 39,029,342 as of December 2022. California is one of two states with a six-figure decrease in population last year, which is largely attributed to net domestic outmigration, according to the bureau.
The bureau reported that the growth in Texas last year was largely due to net domestic migration, net international migration, and natural increase.
