El Paso driver killed after guardrail breaks, enters car in high-speed crash on I-10 east

UPDATE: El Paso police say the driver killed in a crash Friday morning was seen speeding moments before the collision. Police say witnesses saw the 21-year-old driver swerving across all lanes of I-10 east.

Police say the witnesses lost sight of the wayward driver but later saw the car had crashed into the right guardrail. Investigators say the guardrail broke, entered the car, causing major damage and killing the driver.

Police have identified the driver as 21-year-old Marialexis Juana Calderon.

The crash happened near the Lee Trevino exit. Investigators say speed was a contributing factor to the fatal collision. The investigation is ongoing.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- El Paso police shut down all eastbound lanes of I-10 East at Lee Trevino early Friday morning as they investigate a deadly crash.

First responders said one person was killed in the single-car crash. It happened at around 2:30 a.m.

Special traffic investigators remain on scene. Expect major delays if this is part of your commute.
