El Paso City Council appoints Cary Westin as Interim City Manager in almost unanimous vote

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- In an almost unanimous vote, El Paso City Council appointed Cary Westin as Interim City Manager Tuesday.

The only city representative that did not vote in favor of Westin's appointment was District 7 representative Henry Rivera.

Westin told ABC-7 he's very excited and deeply honored. He said he's been working with the city for over eight years, and he's excited to lead city workers and continue serving the city in an increased capacity.

Westin is originally from Minnesota, but has lived in El Paso since 1985. He finished his military service in the city, and said he stayed here because his family loved it so much.

The appointment comes after the council voted to terminate current City Manager Tommy Gonzalez's contract on Feb. 28. Gonzalez was given 120 days notice once his contract was terminated to finish out his duties as City Manager.
