ABC-7 First Alert: Risk for strong to severe thunderstorms in the Borderland; strong winds, large hail, and tornadoes are possible

We are under an ABC-7 First Alert in the Borderland! The Storm Track Weather Team is tracking the marginal to slight risk for strong to severe thunderstorms which could produce strong winds, large hail and tornadoes.

Most of the Borderland is under a marginal risk (1/5) for strong to severe thunderstorms. We have a Likewise, those in the Southeastern New Mexico counties in the Permian Basin are in the bullseye for a slight risk (2/5) for strong to severe thunderstorms.

Throughout the rest of the afternoon and into the evening hours, we will continue to have multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms out of the south. Tomorrow, we will see another round of thunderstorms in the Borderland, but mostly east of El Paso County.

A strong upper-level low over Arizona is pulling a lot of moisture out of the Pacific. And in front of that upper-level low, there is a trough that is causing air to rise and create strong to severe thunderstorms. This storm system will continue to track east and things will quiet down behind it.
