Montana US Senate candidate says derogatory comments about Native Americans were ‘insensitive’

Associated Press

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Montana Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy says derogatory remarks he made last year about Native Americans were “insensitive.” Three-term incumbent U.S. Sen. Jon Tester had challenged his opponent during a Monday night debate to apologize over previous remarks from Sheehy about intoxicated Native Americans. Sheehy declined, suggesting instead that Tester should apologize for his role in the immigration crisis. The race has emerged as pivotal for control of the U.S. Senate and is on track to be the most expensive political campaign in Montana history. Republicans need to pick up just a couple seats in November to gain a majority.
